Keeping the lessons from the 1st layer of planking in mind, I approached the 2nd layer with a different mindset. With the shape of the bow, I had a feeling I was going to have a hard time if I attempted to plank “correctly” with the thin walnut strips. I instead decided on an approach that I learned from a YouTube video, where the author uses long strips to figure out the true shape of the hull. Letting the strips run naturally, the “bulbous” shape of the hull presented itself, and I ran the strips symmetrically along it.

After some sanding and fiddling with the groove left for the keel, I managed to attach it and stain everything. I decided to finish it with Dark Walnut Danish Oil, which really made the wood pop.
