Summary
The Nakajima B5N, or “Kate” bomber as designated by the Allied forces in WW2, was the standard carrier-based torpedo bomber of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Despite nearing obsolescence by contemporary aircraft of the same class, the B5N operated throughout the whole war.
The B5N2 played a major role in the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Operating alongside Aichi D3A dive bombers. Apart from the raid on Pearl Harbor, the B5N2 was also effectively employed in the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands.
